I keep seeing people say you can charge local businesses monthly to set up AI chatbots and automations. It sounds too good, like everyone would be doing it. Has anyone here actually closed a local client, and what did you actually sell them?

It’s real but the hype version oversells the ‘passive $5k retainers’ fantasy. I closed two local clients – a dentist and a med spa – by building a simple chatbot that answers their 10 most-asked questions and books appointments. I charge $200 setup plus $75/month. The hard part isn’t the tech, it’s walking into businesses and following up. Sales is the actual skill.

The honesty about sales being the real work is refreshing. How did you approach them without sounding like every other ‘I’ll grow your business’ spammer in their inbox?

Dan the thing that worked for me was going in person or calling, not emailing. I’d say ‘I noticed you don’t answer messages after 6pm, I can fix that for you’ – specific problem, not a pitch. Closed a barbershop and an auto detailer that way. Local trust beats a slick cold email every time.
